Save a PowerPoint file to OneDrive as a video

Save a PowerPoint file to OneDrive as a video

You can save a Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 presentation to Windows Live OneDrive so that it is accessible to others. Because others might use different versions of PowerPoint, which can impact the performance and available features of a presentation, you might want to save your presentation as a video. This helps ensure that all elements of your presentation – including videos, graphic effects and sounds – are included and properly displayed, even when viewed on a computer that does not have PowerPoint installed.

Tips:  Saving your video presentation to OneDrive can help give you more control over how it is viewed. For example:

  • Your presentation as a video can only be viewed, not changed or edited.

  • You can ensure the presentation is viewed at a particular pace.

  • You can control who can see it. Videos saved to most online video sites, such as YouTube, can be viewed by anyone on the Internet.

To save a presentation as a video to OneDrive, you must first save the presentation as a video, and then upload the video to OneDrive.

To save a presentation as a video, do the following:

  1. Click the File tab.

  2. On the Save & Send tab, click Create a video.

  3. Under Create a video, click the Computer & HD Displays down arrow. Do one of the following:

  4. To create a video with very high quality, yet a large file size, click Computer & HD Displays.

  5. To create a video with a moderate file size and medium quality, click Internet & DVD.

  6. To create a video with lower quality and the smallest file size, click Portable Devices.

  7. Click the Don't Use Recorded Timings and Narrations down arrow and then do one of the following:

  8. If you did not record and time voice narration and laser pointer movements, click Don't Use Recorded Timings and Narration.

Tip:  The default time spent on each slide is set to 5 seconds. To change that, next to Seconds to spend on each slide, click the up arrow to increase the time and make the presentation slower, or the down arrow to decrease the time and speed up the presentation.

  9. If you recorded and timed narration and pointer movements, click Use Recorded Timings and Narrations.

  10. Click Create Video.

  11. In the File name box, enter a file name for the video, browse for the folder in which you want to keep this file, and then click Save. The video creation process can take up to several hours depending on the length of the video and the complexity of the presentation.

To upload the video to Windows Live OneDrive, do the following:

  1. Go to http://office.live.com, and sign in with your Windows Live ID. If you don't have a Windows Live ID, click Sign up on the Windows Live page.

  2. Click Add files, then click the folder into which you want to upload the video, or click New folder.

  3. On the Add documents to page, enter the folder location of the presentation, or click Browse and browse for the folder location.

  4. Click Upload.

  5. On the upload confirmation page, you can send an e-mail message with a link to the video to those who you want to see the presentation video, or change the viewing permissions of the folder in which it is stored.
