Zoom and pan in a diagram

Zoom and pan in a diagram

There are several ways to zoom in for a closer look at your Visio drawing and move the diagram around (or "pan" the diagram) to view the section you want.

Your browser does not support video. Install Microsoft Silverlight, Adobe Flash Player, or Internet Explorer 9.

What do you want to do?

Zoom by using the Zoom controls

Zoom and pan by using the Pan & Zoom window

Zoom by using the Zoom command

Zoom and pan by using the keyboard and mouse

Zoom by using the wheel on a Microsoft IntelliMouse pointing device

Zoom by using the Zoom controls

The Zoom controls are in the Visio status bar, below the diagramming page.

Navigate a diagram by using the tools in the status bar

Hold the pointer over each control to see what the control does. The controls include a slider that sets the zoom level, a button to fit the page to the size of the current window, and a button to open the Pan & Zoom window.

Zoom and pan by using the Pan & Zoom window

  1. Open the Pan & Zoom window in either of two ways:

    • In the status bar, near the zoom slider, click the Pan & Zoom window button Pan and zoom button .

    • On the View tab, in the Show group, click Task Panes, and then click Pan & Zoom.

  2. In the Pan & Zoom window, if you do not see a red box, drag to create a red box. The red box indicates the region of the page that is shown in the drawing window.

  3. Resize the red box by dragging a side until it fits the area that you want to magnify.

  4. Pan to view other sections of the diagram by clicking inside the red box and dragging the box over the section you want to view.

Tip: In the Pan & Zoom window, you can also move the slider to zoom in or out of your drawing.
