Share files in onedrive for android

You can share OneDrive files, photos, and folders from the OneDrive app on your Android device just as you can on a PC or Mac. You can also see files that other people have shared with you. To stop sharing, go to the OneDrive website and sign in with your Microsoft account, or with your work or school account.

Note: The Google Play store and the OneDrive app for Android aren't available in China. Also, because OneDrive.com is blocked in China by the government firewall, the OneDrive app won't work in China when you sign in with a Microsoft account.

Select how you want to share

  • How do you want to share?
  • Copy a link to paste in a text message or on a website
  • Invite people to see a file or folder
  • Send a file as an attachment
  1. In the OneDrive app (signed in with your Microsoft account), select the file or folder you want (press and hold to select it), and then select Share Share files button in OneDrive app for Android .

  2. (optional) Select whether recipients Can edit the file, or Can view the file as read-only.

Note: If the options look different, you're probably signed in with a work or school account. Select OneDrive - Business, earlier in this article, to see those instructions.

  3. Select Copy link, and then paste the link in the app or website where you're sharing the link.

Tip: To add a note to your sharing invitation, tap the arrow at the end of Allow editing, then tap Add a quick note and type what you want to say.

  5. Tap Send Send share invitation . The recipients get an email message with a link to the document.

  3. In the Share list, tap the app you want to use to send the file.

  4. To use that app every time you send a file, tap Always. If you tap Just once, this choice appears again next time you send a file.

After you make this selection, the app you selected opens. Use it to share the file.

Tip: Sharing as an attachment works only with individual files. If you want to share a folder, use Copy link or Invite people.

Files shared with you

When someone shares a OneDrive file or folder with you, you typically get an email message or a notification on your Android device. To find the files shared with you in the OneDrive app, tap the Shared view icon Shared view button in OneDrive app for Android at the bottom of the app.

The Shared view includes files shared with you, and files you've shared with others. When signed in with a personal OneDrive account, tap a sharer's name to find the files shared by that person.

Note: The Shared view looks different when you're signed in with a work or school account.

  1. In the OneDrive app (signed in with your work or school account), select the file or folder you want (press and hold to select it), and then select Share Share files button in OneDrive app for Android .

(If you just want to send a copy of the file instead of sharing, click Send a Copy.)

  2. Enter the names of the people you want to share with and a message, if you want.

  3. (Optional) Click the dropdown list to change the type of link. The Details pane opens, where you can change who can access the link and whether people can edit the item you're sharing.

Options for Who would you like this link to work for (options vary based on admin settings):

    • Anyone gives access to anyone who receives this link, whether they receive it directly from you or forwarded from someone else. This may include people outside of your organization.

    • People in <Your Organization> gives everyone in your organization access to the link, whether they receive it directly from you or forwarded from someone else.

    • Specific people gives access only to the people you specify, although other people may already have access. If people forward the sharing invitation, only people who already have access to the item will be able to use the link.

By default, Allow editing is turned on. If you want people to only view your files, uncheck the check box.

    When you're done, click Apply.

  4. When you're ready to send the link, click Send.
