Validate Enterprise Resources dialog box

Validate Enterprise Resources dialog box

Use Validate Enterprise Resources dialog box to correct erroneous resource information prior to checking in the resource.

Dialog box location

This dialog box appears when there is an error checking in an enterprise resource.

  1. On the Tools menu, point to Enterprise Options, and then click Open Enterprise Resource Pool.

  2. Click Open/Add.

  3. Make an erroneous change to a checked-out enterprise resource, or add an already-existing resource.

  4. Click Save Button image .

The Validate Enterprise Resources dialog box appears, indicating the invalid data that caused the error.

Details

Error     Displays the type of error that caused the Validate Enterprise Resources dialog box to appear. For example, if you tried to enter a resource name that is identical to another resource already in the enterprise resource pool, the Error field displays Duplicate name. Other errors can include an invalid base calendar or an invalid custom resource field value. The field containing the error is also highlighted in red. For example, if there's a duplicate resource name, the name appears in red. If the Windows account cannot be validated, the account name appears in red. If the base calendar used is not part of the enterprise global template, then the calendar name appears in red.

Resource Name     Displays the name of the resource whose information is causing the error.

Windows Account     Shows the Windows account name for the resource, if one has been identified.

Base Calendar     Displays the base calendar used as the resource calendar for the resource whose information is causing the error.

Enterprise Custom Field or Custom Outline Code     If there are any required custom enterprise fields or custom outline codes in the enterprise global template, columns representing each of these appear in the Validate Enterprise Resources dialog box, whether or not they are responsible for the error. These fields display the specific custom field or custom outline code values that have been applied to the resource.

Microsoft Office Project checks the values of required custom enterprise fields and custom enterprise outline codes applied to resources against valid values in the enterprise global template, whether or not you changed these values while the resource was checked out. If the server administrator has deleted values for any required custom enterprise field or custom enterprise outline code since the last time the resource was checked out, and the resource you have checked out has a deleted value still applied to it, this dialog box will appear when you try to check the resource back in.

For example, assume that at one time a required custom enterprise outline code value was applied to a resource. After the resource was checked into enterprise resources, that value (but not the outline code) was deleted from the enterprise global template. The next time you check out that resource, you have to apply a new value for that outline code before you can check the resource back in.

  • To correct erroneous enterprise resource information, click Cancel in the dialog box to close it. Select the name of the resource causing the error, and then click Resource Information Button image . Make the required changes to the resource name, calendar, or custom field. Click OK, and then save the file again. If the file is saved without opening the Validate Enterprise Resources dialog box again, you've corrected the problem.

  • If there are many resources in a project and this dialog box is appearing often, you might consider importing the resources to the enterprise. You can detect and resolve resource errors quickly as you work through the Import Resources wizard. On the Tools menu, click Enterprise Options, and then click Import Resources to Enterprise.
