Installation requirements

You'll need iPhone 4 or later, with Apple iOS 6.0 or later, to install Lync 2013 for iPhone.

Install Lync app

Install the Lync 2013 app on your mobile phone with a couple of steps.

  1. From your phone, go to the App Store, and search for Microsoft Lync 2013 for iPhone.

  2. Tap the Free button in the app, and then tap Install and enter your App Store Apple ID and password. As soon as the app is installed, it appears on your home screen.

Remove Lync app

To remove the Lync app from your phone, do this:

Sign in to Lync for the first time

Important: If you haven't used Lync on your desktop computer and this is the first time you're using Lync, you need to have a Lync account created and a sign-in address. If you don't know this information, contact your technical support team. You cannot create a new Lync account from the Lync app on the iPhone.

The first time you sign in to Lync on your iPhone, here's what you'll need to do:

  1. Start Lync by tapping the Lync app icon.

  2. Now you'll see a note explaining that in order to sign in, you need a Lync account and your IT administrator must turn on Lync for Mobile. To confirm that these are in place, tap OK.

  3. Enter your sign-in address (name@domain.com) and your password. (In some instances your user name will be provided in Advanced Options.)

  4. Tap Sign In.

  5. On the Never Miss a Meeting screen, tap the field for your phone number and enter your phone number with country/region codes (this should prepopulate with your call forwarding or simultaneous ring settings that you have set on Lync for the desktop). When Lync cannot use the Wi-Fi or cellular data network to make an audio or video call, Lync will call you back at this number to connect you to the audio portion of the Lync call. When you've finished entering your number, tap the Next arrow icon.

  6. The next screen displays the Push notifications setting on your phone, which alerts you when you get a new IM or a VoIP call. This setting is on by default. To turn it off, swipe the corresponding button to the left.

  7. Click the Next arrow icon to start using Lync.

Sign in to Lync after the first time

Once you've signed in to Lync on your iPhone for the first time, subsequent sign-ins are faster. And you may notice that the Password field or the Save password field is gone, depending on how security has been set up for your organization.

  1. Start Lync by tapping the Lync app icon.

  2. Now do one of the following, depending on what you see on the sign-in screen:

  3. If the sign-in window asks for a user name and a password, enter your sign-in address (name@domain.com) and your password, and tap Sign In. (In some instances a user name will be provided in Advanced Options.)

  4. If the sign-in window asks only for a user name, enter your sign-in address (name@domain.com) and tap Sign In.

  5. If you have been taken to a new browser window, follow the sign-in instructions given there.
