Set up email in the Outlook for Android app

If you're receiving multiple sign in prompts, you may be having issues with your OneDrive connected account. First, make sure your Outlook app is up to date. Then, open the app and go to Settings > click on your account > Reset Account. Do this for multiple accounts.

If you're still encountering issues, Open an in-app Outlook support ticket. Or, if you have a work or school account that uses Office 365 for business or Exchange-based accounts, talk to your Office 365 admin or technical support.

Download Outlook for Android and then open the app. The icon looks like this:

Step 1

Tap Get Started if it's your first time.

Otherwise, open the Menu and tap Settings > Add Account > Add Email Account.

Tap and open the menu.

Go to Settings

Select Add Account

Enter your full email address, then tap Continue.

Note: If you're not automatically redirected to a password sign-in screen, see Set up manually or set up an IMAP or POP account for instructions.

Enter your email address.

Step 3

Enter your email account password and tap Sign In or Next.

Note: The sign in screen may look different for you depending on your email provider.

Enter your password for your email account.

Step 4

If 2-step verification is enabled, verify yourself using the method you set up (6 digit code, phone call, or Microsoft Authenticator app).

Note: If you're prompted to Set up 2-step verification for Office 365, it may be required by your IT admin.

Check your text messages and enter the 6 digit code.

If you're using an Office 365 work or school account, your IT admin may have set additional policies. If you see these prompts, tap Activate and Activate again.

Tap Activate to accept your admin device policy.

Step 6

Outlook may request permission to access your calendar, contacts, etc. Tap Yes or Allow.

You're now ready to use Outlook for Android!

Click on an expander to open it:

  1. In Outlook for Android, go to Settings > Add Account > Add Email Account.

  2. Enter email address. Tap Continue.

  3. Tap Setup account manually if available, and then on the email provider page choose Exchange and toggle Advanced Settings on.

  4. Enter your server setting details, if available and then tap the checkmark icon.

    Incoming Server Settings

    • Domain\Username
      Enter your full email address, such as yourname@yourdomain.com.

    • Password
      Use the password that you use to access your email.

    • Server

      • Exchange accounts - See the section, Find your Exchange mailbox server settings or ask your IT admin for your server information.

      • Outlook.com accounts (Such as @hotmail.com, @msn.com, @live.com, or other accounts hosted on Outlook.com) - Use eas.outlook.com.

      • Office 365 work or school accounts - Use outlook.office365.com.

    • Port
      Use 443 or 993.

    • Security type
      Select SSL/TLS or make sure the Use secure connection (SSL) checkbox is checked, then tap Next.

    Outgoing SMTP Server Settings

    • SMTP Server

      • Exchange accounts - Ask your IT admin for your server info.

      • Outlook.com accounts (@outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @msn.com, or @live.com, including any other accounts hosted on Outlook.com.) - Use smtp-mail.outlook.com.

      • Office 365 work or school accounts - Use smtp.office365.com.

    • Security Type
      Choose TLS.

    • Port Number
      Enter 587. Tap Next.

  5. You may be prompted to enter your email account password again or agree to/activate any necessary permissions.

If you want to set up an IMAP or POP email account, or don't have an email account with Exchange ActiveSync, use these instructions . When you set up an email account using IMAP or POP, only your email will sync--not calendar or contacts. What is IMAP and POP?

Set up IMAP account in Outlook for Android

  1. In Outlook for Android, go to Settings > Add Account > Add Email Account.

  2. Enter email address. Tap Continue. When asked to select an email provider, choose IMAP.

  3. Toggle Advanced settings on and enter your password and server settings.

    Note: If you don't already know this info, you'll need to get it from your email provider or administrator. For a list of common server settings and reference help, see Server settings you'll need from your email provider.

  4. Tap the checkmark icon to complete.

Enter your password and any server settings your may need.

To change your password you must go to your email provider's website to change them.

  1. Go to your email provider's website.

    For example, if you use a @hotmail.com email account, sign into login.live.com or if you use Gmail, go to Gmail.com.

  2. Go to your account or profile settings.

  3. Change your password.

  4. Outlook for Android will detect a sync error and will ask you to enter your password again.

If you are having difficulty getting Outlook for Android to sync with your new password, delete your email account and then re-add it.

Note: If you change the password for your email account that is also your Microsoft account, you may need to login again on other Microsoft applications and websites.
