Build Team dialog box
Use the Build Team dialog box to select resources from the list of enterprise resources to be assigned to your project team based on skill requirements, resource availability, or other criteria. You can:
-
Find enterprise resources using a built-in or custom filter.
-
Add enterprise resources to a project.
-
Tentatively reserve enterprise resources for your project.
-
Remove enterprise resources from a project.
-
Find resources with skills that match skills required for an assignment.
Dialog box location
In Project 2016, 2013, and 2010: on the Resource tab, click Add Resources and then click Build Team from Enterprise.
In Project 2007: on the Tools menu, click Build Team from Enterprise.
Note: If the Filter Enterprise Resources dialog box appears, you need to reduce the number of resources displayed by doing one of the following:
-
Select resources using the Resource Name check box and Resource Name list.
-
Filter for particular resources by specifying values for custom fields set up by your organization. Select the Custom Fields Filters check box, and then enter values in the Field Name, Test, and Value columns.
If the Value column contains a pre-populated list of items, then use the contains, equals, or does not equal test from the Test column. If you are not sure which test to use, check with your administrator. Otherwise, follow these guidelines:
-
If the Value column contains multi-value lookup table items that allow you to select multiple values, use the contains test.
-
If the Value column contains single-value lookup table items, use the equals or does not equal test.

Existing filters box
The following is the list of built-in filters you can apply to help narrow your search for the right enterprise resources for your team. Select the filter you want. If a filter requires additional information, such as a cost limit or date, a dialog box will appear.

Cost Greater Than Displays resources or assignments whose cost is greater than a specified amount.
Cost Overbudget Displays resources or assignments whose cost is over budget.
Date Range Displays assignments starting or finishing between specified dates.

Customize filters (optional) section
Click the plus sign to show and use the customize filters table. Use this table to build a custom filter for finding the right enterprise resources for your project team. When finished, apply your new filter to enterprise resources by clicking Apply Filter.
And/Or If the filter contains more than one criterion row, enter an operator for each row. Click And to specify that both criteria must be true for the filter to select a resource. Click Or to specify that one criterion or the other must be true for the filter to select a resource. If you don't include an operator, Microsoft Office Project uses the And operator.
Field Name Enter the field whose contents you want to test. Project checks the contents of this field for all of the enterprise resources.
Test Type a test, or click one in the list. Project uses the test to compare the value or values you type in the Value(s) box with the field information for the resource. Project informs you if a test is not valid for the field you have selected.
Tests
equals Displays resources whose field contents exactly match the value. The field may not contain any values other than the matched value.
does not equal Displays resources whose field contents do not exactly match the value.
is greater than Displays resources whose field contents are greater than the value.
is greater than or equal to Displays resources whose field contents are greater than or equal to the value.
is less than Displays resources whose field contents are less than the value.
is less than or equal to Displays resources whose field contents are less than or equal to the value.
is within Displays resources whose field contents fall within the range specified by the two values.
is not within Displays resources whose field contents fall outside of the range specified by the two values.
contains Displays resources whose field contents contain the value. For example, if you filter for tasks whose Name field contains "berg," Project displays resource names such as "Berglund," "Bergman," and "Greenberg."
does not contain Displays resources whose field contents do not contain the value.
contains exactly Displays resources whose field contents contain a resource that exactly matches the value. This is different from the equals test because the contains exactly test can operate on fields such as Resource Names, which can list multiple values at once.
Value(s) Enter the numbers, dates, or text that the field contents are to be tested against. You can also click a field from the list to compare its contents with the contents of the field specified in the Field Name column. Values must match the type of field they are being tested against. For example, if you have selected Cost for the field name, you cannot use Finish Date in the Value(s) field. When inappropriate values are entered in the Value(s) field, Project displays a message when you attempt to close the dialog box.
To indicate a range is within or is not within for the test, separate the values with the list-separator character. For example, if you have selected is within for the Test column, you can find tasks that fall within two dates by typing 1/1/08,2/1/08.
Additional filter criteria
Available to work Specifies whether enterprise resources should be filtered for a certain work availability or period of time. By default, this check box is cleared. Use this check box in conjunction with the adjacent Work availability box or the From and To boxes.
Work availability Specifies that enterprise resources should be filtered for a certain amount of available work, for example, 80h or 24w. Use this box in conjunction with the adjacent Available to work check box.
From Specifies the starting date from which enterprise resources should be available. Use this box in conjunction with the Available to work check box and the To date box.
To Specifies the ending date through which enterprise resources should be available. Use this box in conjunction with the Available to work check box and the From date box.
Include proposed bookings when determining availability and total assigned work Specifies whether proposed assignments should be considered when filtering for availability and work. By default, this check box is cleared, specifying that only committed assignments are considered.
Apply Filter Executes the custom filter and any additional filter criteria specified.
Filtered enterprise resources table
Group by Specifies the groupings by which you want to review the filtered enterprise resources in the table.
Indicator This column ( ) displays an indicator regarding the resource.
Enterprise Resource Lists the names of enterprise resources that meet the criteria of the filter you have applied. To see all enterprise resources in this table, click All Resources (No Filter) in the Existing filters list.
Avail Displays the number of hours each resource is available to work.
Project team resources table
Indicator This column ( ) displays an indicator that shows whether the resource is a generic or actual resource, a local or enterprise resource, or an active or inactive resource.
Team Resource Lists the names of project team resources which are assigned to tasks in the current project. These might be generic resources from a project template, local resources not included in the enterprise resource pool, or enterprise resources already added from the enterprise resource pool.
Booking Specifies whether the resource's assignments are proposed or committed. After you add a resource from the Enterprise Resource table, select whether the resource is proposed or committed.
Work Displays the amount of work (typically in hours) that is currently assigned to each resource.
Command buttons
Add Adds a resource selected in the Filtered enterprise resource table to the Project team resources table. The name is then dimmed in the Filtered enterprise resource table to indicate it has already been added.
Remove Removes a resource selected in the Project team resources table and updates the resource's availability in the Filtered enterprise resource table. The resource name is also undimmed. You cannot remove a resource that has recorded actual work on this project. However, the server administrator can make such a resource inactive.
Replace Replaces a resource selected in the Project team resources table with a resource selected in the Filtered enterprise resource table. You cannot replace a resource that has recorded actual work on this project. However, you can use the Assign Resources dialog box to assign any remaining work to another resource.
Match Finds additional resources from the Filtered enterprise resource table that have the same characteristics (for example, skills and proficiency) as the resource selected in the Project team resources table. The selected resource can be a generic resource. The match is accomplished through the use of enterprise resource outline codes, as defined on the Custom Outline Codes tab in the Customize Enterprise Fields dialog box. If an enterprise resource outline code is defined, and if the Use this code for matching generic resources check box was selected by the server administrator who created the outline code, then this code is used to match a selected resource here in the Build Team dialog box.
Details Opens the Resource Information dialog box, which you can use to review resource information for the selected resource. If you have the required permissions, you can also edit enterprise resources in this dialog box.
Graphs Opens the Graphs dialog box which you can use to review availability graphs for selected resources.
