Add callouts, captions, or lines to your SmartArt graphic
When you create a SmartArt graphic, you might want to add some explanatory text or point out something on the SmartArt graphic. You can do this by either adding a caption or callout shape, or a line with an arrowhead.
Add a caption or callout shape

Excel

Click the spreadsheet that contains the SmartArt graphic that you want to add a caption to.

On the Insert tab, in the Illustrations group, click Shapes.

Under Callouts, click the shape that you want, click anywhere on your SmartArt graphic, and then drag to draw and place the shape.

To enter text, type in the shape.
Notes:

You can change the shape border.
-
To later delete this shape, click its border and then press DELETE.

PowerPoint
-
Click the slide that contains the SmartArt graphic that you want to add a caption to.

On the Home tab, in the Drawing group, click Shapes.

Under Callouts, click the shape that you want, click anywhere on your SmartArt graphic, and then drag to draw and place the shape.

To enter text, type in the shape.

To later delete this shape, click its border and then press DELETE.

Add a line with an arrowhead

Click the spreadsheet that contains the SmartArt graphic that you want to add a line with an arrowhead to.

On the Insert tab, in the Illustrations group, click Shapes.

Under Lines, click the line that you want, click anywhere on your SmartArt graphic, and then drag to draw and place the line.
To draw a straight line, click Line , and then drag to draw the line.

To add an arrowhead, select the line, and then under Drawing Tools, on the Format tab, in the Shape Styles group, click the arrow next to Shape Outline.
If you do not see the Drawing Tools or Format tabs, make sure that you selected the line.

Point to Arrows, and then click the arrow style that you want.
To create a custom arrow style, click More Arrows, and then choose the options that you want.

You can also change the color, weight, style, or effect of your line.
