Options for converting a Word document to an InfoPath form template
You can convert a Microsoft Office Word document to a Microsoft Office InfoPath form template by using the Import Wizard in InfoPath. Use the settings in the Import Options dialog box to change the options for importing a Word document to InfoPath.
What do you want to import?
Layout only Click this option if you want to preserve the layout of the Word document when you import it, but not the Word form fields if any exist.
Layout and form fields (default conversion) Click this option if you want to use the default settings to preserve the layout of the Word document when you import it and use default settings to covert Word form fields and other elements to various InfoPath controls.
Layout and form fields (custom conversion) Click this option if you want to preserve the layout of the Word document when you import it. Then choose the exact options that you want under Custom conversion settings.
Custom conversion settings
Convert Word form fields to InfoPath controls Select this check box if you want text boxes, check boxes, and drop-down list boxes in the Word document to be converted into their corresponding control types in the resulting InfoPath form template. For example, if the Word document contains a check box, then the resulting form template will contain a check box.
Detect repeating tables Select this check box if you want tables in the Word document that have two or more identical rows to be converted to repeating tables in the resulting InfoPath form template. If the Word document contains identical text in multiple adjacent rows, those rows are considered identical rows, regardless of capitalization. For example, if three cells in adjacent rows contain the words SingleFamily, Single Family, and Single family, those rows are considered identical rows. When creating the repeating table, InfoPath preserves the number of blank rows that were present in the table in the Word document.
Detect rich text areas Select this check box if you want multiple, underscored lines in the Word document to be converted into rich text boxes in the resulting InfoPath form template.
Convert to text box
Use the following options to customize the conversion process. These options are available only if you clicked Layout and form fields (custom conversion):
Empty, underlined areas Select this check box if you want empty, underlined areas in the Word document to be converted into text boxes in the resulting InfoPath form template. The conversion also works if the document contains three or more underscore ( _ ) characters in a row.
Empty space after colons Select this check box if you want empty spaces after colons in the Word document to be converted into text boxes in the resulting InfoPath form template. The conversion also works if the colon is followed by a tab stop with solid leader characters or by three or more underscore ( _ ) characters in a row.
Empty table cells Select this check box if you want empty cells in the Word document that have border formatting applied on all four sides to be converted into text boxes in the resulting InfoPath form template.
Table cells containing label text Select this check box if you want table cells in the Word document that have labels in their upper-left corners (or upper-right corners in the case of right-to-left languages) to be converted into text boxes in the resulting InfoPath form template.
Brackets around multiple spaces Select this check box if you want multiple spaces or tabs enclosed by brackets [ ] in the Word document to be converted into text boxes in the resulting InfoPath form template. If there is text between the brackets, that text is converted into placeholder text in the InfoPath form template. Brackets are not converted into text boxes if there is a line break or page break between the brackets, or if there are more than 60 characters between the brackets.
Convert to check box
Brackets around single space Select this check box if you want either single spaces enclosed by brackets [ ] or underscored spaces enclosed by brackets [_] in the Word document to be converted into check boxes in the resulting InfoPath form template.
