Do things quickly with tell me

Your browser does not support video. Install Microsoft Silverlight, Adobe Flash Player, or Internet Explorer 9.

You'll notice a text box on the ribbon in Office 2016 that says Tell me what you want to do. This is a text field where you can enter words and phrases about what you want to do next and quickly get to features you want to use or actions you want to perform. You can also use Tell Me to find help about what you're looking for, or to use Smart Lookup to research or define the term you entered.

Note: At Microsoft we're continually testing out new things to help you achieve more with Office. For that reason, you may see Search instead of Tell me what you want to do in the ribbon. The functionality is identical, we're just trying out some new ideas to make it more discoverable for you. For more information about using search, see Find what you need with Microsoft Search in Office.
