An error log is a record of what happens when a computer encounters a problem. Your technical support person might ask you to provide an error log to help analyze sign-in or other problems in Microsoft Lync 2010 or Windows.
Note: Before you enable logging, review the Privacy Statement for Microsoft Lync Products.
What do you want to do?
Lync logging options are as follows:
-
Turn on logging in Lync Creates a log file that contains information about the interaction of Lync with Microsoft Lync Server 2010.
-
Turn on Windows Event Logging for Lync Writes certain types of errors to the Windows Event Log, along with details that can help in troubleshooting.
Turn on logging
To turn on logging, follow these steps:
-
In the Lync sign-in screen, click the Optionsbutton.
-
On the General tab, under Logging, select the options you want.
Forward Lync log files to technical support
If your organization's technical support team asks you to provide your Lync log files, follow these steps:
-
In Windows Explorer, navigate to the Tracing folder in your user profile directory—for example, C:\Users\MyAlias\Tracing, where MyAlias is your sign-in name.
-
Sort the files by date, and look for the two most recent files with the file extensions .uccapilog and .etl.
-
Copy both files, and then insert them into an email message to your organization's technical support team.
Note: If you just turned on logging, you must sign out and then sign back in to create the log file.
Forward Windows Error Logs to technical support
If your organization's technical support team asks you to provide error details from the Windows Error Log, follow these steps

Do one of the following:

In Windows Vista operating system, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Run.
-

Double-click the most recent Lync 2010 error in the list to display the error details.
-
In the Event Properties dialog box, click the Copy button to copy the text of the error.
