Sending a message

Sending a message

Note: This article has done its job, and will be retiring soon. To prevent "Page not found" woes, we're removing links we know about. If you've created links to this page, please remove them, and together we'll keep the web connected.

You can send a message to any contact. You can also start an Office Communicator conversation with any contact who is running Office Communicator.

Starting a new message

Do any of the following to start a new message:

  • Right-click any contact in your contact list in the Launchbar or in a member list in a Groove workspace, and then click Send Member Message.

  • To start a new message addressed to all members of a Groove workspace, click the Workspace tab, click Send Member Message, and then click Send Member Message to All Members.

Alternatively, right-click the workspace in the Launchbar, and then click Send Message to Members...

  • From Message History, click the New Message icon.

Addressing a message

Complete addressing information (if not already complete) as follows:

  • From. The "From" text box automatically contains your display name (identity).

  • To. The "To" drop-down menu includes all currently "known" contacts: this includes contacts you have added to your contact list in the Launchbar, as well as any contacts who are members in one of your workspaces. Click More to open the Add Recipients dialog box in which you can search for and add other contacts.

Adding message content

You can add text with rich-text features, and attach files to a message.

  • Message. Type the message text. Right-click to see formatting options. Click Check Spelling to check spelling in the text editor.

  • File button. Click to browse and select files to attach and send with the message. The name and size (in bytes) of files you select displays in the Attachments list box.

Note: The total size of all attachments in one message may not exceed 25 MB.

Sending the message

Click Send to send the message. Alerts display above the taskbar icon to inform you about the delivery status of the message.
